The Giants had their pick of offensive linemen in the 2020 draft and they decided Andrew Thomas, out of Georgia, was the safest and securest of them all.

Five games in, more is needed.

“We’ve got to start taking leaps,’’ offensive line coach Marc Colombo said. “We really haven’t done that. There have been kinda baby steps, and that’s something we’re gonna have to fix. Andrew’s capable of being a dominating left tackle in the NFL. I truly believe that. He’s gone against some really good competition. He’s done well at times and he’s had times where not so much.’’

Thomas, in the 37-34 loss to the Cowboys, got beat by DeMarcus Lawrence on a disastrous play for the Giants, as Daniel Jones was hit, sacked and separated from the ball.

“The very next play, he must’ve thrown his hands violently a number of times, and it was really good to see,’’ Colombo said. “He had some fight to him. If you watch that Dallas game, he was aggressive, and it’s what we’re looking for.’’

It is not everything, but it is something.
